Synopsis

The photographer I chose for my presentation was Steve McCurry. He has contributed many photographs to the National Geographic magazine and has earned many awards and honors for his work. His most famous photograph of an Afghan refugee during the Soviet-Afghan war, who was later identified as Sharbat Gula, grabbed the attention of people around the globe. McCurry’s ability to not just capture evocative colored photographs, but also ethically evaluative photographs showcasing human emotion and experience.

The work of Steve McCurry showed me how human expressions and emotions can tell an individual’s story, whether it is one of hardship or one of harmony. His photographs were able to send a message to the world about the difficulties that humans face, such as Sharbat Gula. McCurry’s ability to capture the true color of his surroundings is also something that I truly was amazed by when observing his work.

The photographs that you picked for this assignment was amazing! Steve McCurry is a wonderful photographer and can easily tell a story with their images. My favorite was the first photograph you showed. The person's eyes has such a stark difference to the background. I agree that the story telling in the photographs shown is great.
